Welcome to Ganesh Academy of Indian Arts
Ganesh Academy of Indian Arts was founded in 1985 in
Atlanta, Georgia, as a part of The Arts Exchange, a collective effort of local
artists to promote various art forms from around the world. The founder,
Melissa Sproul-Singh, had returned from a
six-year residential study in India and was excited about sharing her experience
of the classical and folk arts of India with other Americans. She wanted to
involve the community of Indians living abroad and Americans who were interested
in the arts of India. The organization's purpose was to have Indian teachers of dance and
music come to teach in the United States. Ganesh Academy has worked closely with The Pandit Chatur Lal Memorial Society in New Delhi, India, and is currently organizing a Sept.- Nov. 2008 tour of dance performances and workshops by the extremely talented daughter of the late Guru Surendra Nath Jena,
Pratibha Jena Singh.
